Give Manattan Beach Your 'Local Love'

It's time to show your "Local Love for Manhattan Beach," according to a new citywide campaign aimed at encouraging local spending. 


In partnership with the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business and Professionals Association, North End Business Improvement District and the Manhattan Village Mall, the city of Manhattan Beach is launching a multi-media “Local Love for Manhattan Beach" campaign. The effort is aimed to help residents understand the importance of supporting local businesses by shopping, dining, and staying in Manhattan Beach.

The city introduced the campaign in a short video yesterday.

“Every dollar spent in Manhattan Beach benefits the local economy and helps pay for public safety, schools, street repairs, parks maintenance, recreation opportunities and other city services,” said Mayor Richard Montgomery in a statement. “Our businesses help preserve our small-town beach character and now, more than ever, we should shop and dine locally to support them through these trying times."

(Note that this campaign is separate from a private fundraising effort, also called Local Love for Manhattan Beach, created in May to provide grants to local businesses.)

Impact of Pandemic Felt Around Town


The impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic has been deeply around town. Eleven businesses have closed in the downtown area alone since the pandemic began, for example. Overall, according to city officials, there has been a loss of jobs, revenue, and economic vitality; and the business community’s ability to contribute to local fundraisers has been limited. 

“We hope that as a community we can rally together to support local business to help the community survive the pandemic and effectively recover when the virus has run its course,” said Kelly Stroman, president/CEO of the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce in a statement. “Local businesses provide employment opportunities, entertainment and fun for families, and most importantly keeps dollars close to home to help the local economy.”

Residents are being encouraged to shop, dine, and stay locally to help keep local businesses open and maintain city services. You can share your support for the effort by using the hashtag  #MBLocalLove in your social media posts and tagging @downtownmanhattanbeach, @mbchamber, @cityofmb and @mbparksandrec.
