Manhattan Beach City Council, School Board Candidates Set

A slate of residents have declared their candidacies for the Manhattan Beach City Council and Manhattan Beach Unified School District's school board.

The City Council and school board elections will be held on Tuesday, November 8.

The primary deadline for candidates to register was Friday, August 12. However, under election rules, if an incumbent did not file documents by 4:00 p.m. on August 12, the nomination period was extended until Wednesday, August 17 at 5:00 p.m., for candidates other than the incumbent.

Given that several incumbents chose not to run again, the ballot officially closed on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.

Manhattan Beach City Council

There are two seats up for election for the Manhattan Beach City Council: the seats currently held by incumbents Suzanne Hadley and Hildy Stern. Suzanne Hadley plans to run again; Hildy Stern confirmed with MB News that she is not running again.

Manhattan Beach, a General Law city, has a five-member City Council, elected at large to formulate policy for the city. Each member serves a nine-month mayoral position during their four-year term.

Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board of Trustees

There are three open seats on the Manhattan Beach Unified School District's Board of Trustees (more commonly known as the school board). Those seats are currently held by Jennifer Cochran, Jen Fenton, and Sally Peel.

Of the three incumbents, only Jen Fenton is running again.
