Manhattan Beach Parking Shuttle Moves to Manhattan Village

The free parking shuttle for downtown Manhattan Beach has a new home: You can now pick it up in the Macy's parking garage at Manhattan Village.
The new
park-and-ride at Manhattan Village is located on the second level in
the Macy’s structure on the north side of Manhattan Village off of
Rosecrans Avenue.
With the start of the new school year, the shuttle will no longer be located at Pacific Elementary.

In July, the city declared the lot "unsafe in its current condition" and fully closed all levels of Lot 3.
The new MB Shuttle
route will go from Manhattan Village to downtown Manhattan Beach, with stops
at Manhattan Avenue and 10th Street and at City Hall, 1400 Highland
Avenue. (See the tiny yellow stars on the map below.)

The shuttle will run every 30 minutes on Monday – Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Friday – Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
This new shuttle route will be offered through September 3.
Shuttle Aims to Compensate for Doomed Lot 3
The free shuttle was designed in part to compensate for the loss of Lot 3, which had offered three levels' worth of parking spaces in downtown Manhattan Beach.
The nondescriptly named City Parking Lot 3 is located on
Morningside Drive between 12th and Center Place. It was built in 1971, before modern
building codes that include crucial seismic safety measures.
Back in June, city engineers determined that the third level had significant structural issues and "degradation" and
should be closed "out of an abundance of caution."
And earlier this month, the city shut down vehicular traffic on Center Place next to the garage for "safety reasons."
The city has also arranged for public parking behind U.S. Bank during non-business hours.
