Get Ready for Big Hometown Fair, 10K Weekend in Manhattan Beach

Oct 04, 2024 09:53AM ● By Jeanne Fratello

A parade Saturday morning will kick off the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair.

Heading into one of the biggest weekend of the year in Manhattan Beach - with the MB 10K and the Hometown Fair - we've got the scoop on activities, parking, and more.

Manhattan Beach 10K

The MB10K is the largest "pure" 10K in California (meaning only a 10K run, no other races) and has been ranked as one of the top 100 road races in the United States. Of those top 100, it is the only one without a corporate sponsor, thanks to its all-volunteer race committee, and its only source of income is the runners' entry fees.

The popular race (now in its 47th year) is marked by families and community groups cheering along the way, live bands amping up the runners, personalized name call-outs at the finish line, and a generous post-race expo by the beach. This year's 10K is sold out to runners for the second year in a row.

At the race, watch out for the P.I.E.R. runners ("Participated In Every Race"), who have run all 46 of the past MB10K races. That elite cadre of men and women - most of whom are now in their 70s and 80s - are treated as V.I.P.s at the race, receiving special t-shirts and gift bags.

Road Closures: Road closures begin at 6:30 a.m. and will reopen on a rolling basis until approximately 9:15 a.m. Downtown streets may not reopen until 10:00 a.m.

On this map, the red lines show the race route, which you will not be able to cross during the race without delays. The green lines show potential routes through town to avoid the race.
